Master's Thesis Candidate - AI & Data Science in SCM (m/f/d)

Intern / Student, Full-time · Germany, Munich

Your daily workout
We are looking for a bright mind to build our very first Machine Learning Proof of Concept (PoC) in SCM. You will develop a predictive AI model that anticipates lead-time deviations before they happen. This applies not only to our critical electronic components (e.g., from Asia) but also aims to improve the predictability of our complex system suppliers (Systemlieferanten). Additionally, you will act as our AI scout, evaluating existing market solutions. You will work directly with our Supply Chain Management Leadership and pioneer our data strategy.

  • Data Preparation & Modeling (Hands-on): You will extract, clean, and structure historical data from our ERP system and train a custom machine learning model (e.g., in Python) to identify patterns and predict lead-time deviations across both component suppliers and system-level partners
  • Market Scouting & Tool Evaluation: "Make or Buy?" Alongside your custom model, you will research and evaluate commercially available AI supply chain solutions (from ERP add-ons to specialized predictive software) to assess their fit for EGYM's long-term tech stack
  • Shadow-Mode Testing: You will run your model in parallel with our daily operations, evaluating your AI forecasts against real-world delivery times and the estimates from our Business Management, Service, and disposition teams
  • Business Case Calculation: You will calculate the potential savings in shipment, working capital, and production downtime generated by AI-driven predictions
Your fitness level
  • Academic Background: You are currently enrolled in a Master's or advanced Bachelor's program in Data Science, Information Systems, Supply Chain Engineering, or a related field
  • Tech Stack: You are highly proficient in Python (or R), comfortable with libraries like Pandas and Scikit-Learn, and have a solid foundation in SQL
  • Mindset: "Done is better than perfect." You understand that real-world ERP data is never 100% clean, and you enjoy finding pragmatic solutions for imperfect data sets rather than getting lost in theory
You are analytically strong and can critically evaluate third-party software vendors.
  • Experience: Ideally, you have a basic understanding of logistics, procurement processes, or supplier management (not mandatory, we will provide the business mentoring)
The equipment we provide
  • Real Impact: No theoretical projects destined for a drawer.
Your code and software evaluations will build the foundation for our future AI strategy in SCM
  • Direct Mentoring: Close collaboration and sparring with our SCM leadership
  • Perspective: The opportunity for a seamless transition into a full-time role upon successful completion of the PoC and your studies
