Team Lead - Firmware Engineering (Rust & C) (m/f/d)

Permanent employee, Full-time · Germany, Munich

Your daily workout
We are looking for a Firmware Team Lead (m/f/d) to spearhead a newly formed squad within our Machine Infrastructure domain in Munich. As we evolve our fleet of smart strength-training equipment, you will be the driving force behind our transition to Rust on Zephyr, ensuring our machines remain the safest and most intelligent on the gym floor. You will balance technical excellence with a "people-first" leadership philosophy, building a high-performing team that lives and breathes Radical Candor.

Ready to lead the transition to Rust and shape the future of connected fitness? Apply now and help us build the next generation of intelligent training equipment.

You will split your energy between building a world-class team (40%) and architecting the future of our firmware (60%).
  • The People Lead (40%): You own the growth of your engineers. You’ll lead 1:1s, facilitate career development, and act as a "Rust Magnet" to attract top-tier talent. You’ll coordinate training for our seasoned C developers as they transition into the Rust ecosystem
  • The Process Architect: You don't just write code; you improve how code is written. You’ll prioritize automated tooling and CI/CD enhancements to make the developer experience seamless
  • The Technical Evangelist: You work closely with the Head of Engineering and Principal Engineer, you will define the vision for C/Rust integration. You’ll be the hands-on expert navigating the no-std world and Zephyr RTOS
  • The Collaborator: You are the bridge to our hardware team, meeting at least weekly to ensure software and silicon are in perfect harmony
  • The Lean Thinker: You aren't a Scrum Master, but you understand the "why" behind the board. You’ll manage the Kanban flow and occasionally lead retrospectives to keep the team’s momentum high.
Your fitness level
  • Proven Leader: You have at least 1 year of experience in a team leadership role and a total of 5+ years in embedded systems
  • Rust & C Expert: You are proficient in C but a true believer in Rust. You have experience with no-std Rust and ideally have worked with Zephyr
  • Safety Specialist: You have a deep understanding of electronic control systems and the physical safety requirements of motor-driven hardware
  • Radical Communicator: You believe that clear, direct feedback is a gift and the only way to build a healthy team. Ideally you have read (or are ready to dive into) Radical Candor
  • Pragmatic Modernizer: You know how to integrate Rust into existing C codebases without breaking the world
Your training goal for your first 6 months
  • Integration: You gain a deep understanding of the EGYM ecosystem and how the different teams within the software engineering organization collaborate
  • Mastery: You become fully comfortable with our cloud infrastructure, tooling, and automation workflows
  • Leadership: You establish yourself as a trusted technical and people leader within the Cloud Infrastructure team
  • Mentorship: You actively mentor engineers, provide constructive feedback, and support their professional growth
The equipment we provide
  • Radical Growth: We create the space, support, and opportunities for you to grow as a leader and take your career to the next level
  • Learning Time: Use 10% of your time on learning topics of your choice (conferences, hackathons, internal and external events, videos, books or innovation projects)
  • AI Tooling: Full access to GitHub CoPilot to help you and your team automate the mundane
  • Modern Tech Stack Engagement: Beyond Rust/C, we engage with Go, gRPC, and PubSub across our ecosystem. See all the technologies we use here
  • Choose Your Equipment: Use state-of-the-art laptops (MacOS, Linux, Windows? Choose your weapon! Also choose your Distro!)
