(Senior) Data Platform Engineer (m/f/d)

Germany, Munich, France, Paris, Germany, Berlin
Full-time
Permanent employee

Your daily workout

Join EGYM as our (Senior) Data Platform Engineer (m/f/d) in Munich, Berlin or Paris! In this pivotal role, you will shape the data foundation that powers EGYM Wellpass and EGYM Technology, with a strong focus on PII data handling, auditability, and compliance. If you're an experienced data expert who cares about scalable platforms, trusted data, and privacy by design, this is your opportunity to make a significant impact.

  • Platform & Pipelines: You design scalable data models in Snowflake and build robust ingestion, transformation, and orchestration pipelines with dbt, Fivetran, and GCP, with quality, observability, and CI/CD baked in from day one
  • Privacy Engineering: You own PII protection end-to-end, masking, pseudonymization, tokenization, encryption with GCP KMS/Secret Manager, and GDPR workflows including right-to-be-forgotten and data subject access requests
  • Governance, Audit & Compliance: You establish RBAC/ABAC frameworks, data catalog standards, data contracts, audit logging, and column-level lineage, keeping us audit-ready against SOC 2 and ISO 27001 in close partnership with Security and Legal
  • Semantic Layer & AI-Readiness: You build and maintain a governed semantic layer (e.g. dbt MetricFlow, Snowflake Semantic Views) as the authoritative definition of business metrics, the foundation for self-service BI and AI-powered analytics
  • Team Enablement & Cost Stewardship: You mentor the data team in engineering best practices, secure data handling, and establish cost monitoring across pipelines to drive proactive platform optimization

Your fitness level

  • Professional Experience: You have 3+ years of experience in data engineering or platform engineering, ideally with exposure to regulated industries (HealthTech, FinTech, InsurTech, or similar)
  • Platform Stack: You bring hands-on experience with Snowflake, dbt, Fivetran, GCP (Pub/Sub, Dataflow), and orchestration on Airflow or Dagster. You are proficient in SQL and Python, comfortable with modern table formats (Parquet, Iceberg), and ideally have exposure to streaming and CDC patterns (e.g. Kafka)
  • Privacy Engineer: You have implemented PII protection in production, masking, pseudonymization, tokenization, and built GDPR-compliant workflows for subject rights
  • Governance & Compliance: You are experienced with audit logging, end-to-end and column-level lineage, RBAC/ABAC frameworks, data catalog tooling, and data contract patterns. You know the evidence requirements of SOC 2 or ISO 27001 and have supported audits in practice
  • Engineering Dicsipline: You have built CI/CD pipelines with testing, monitoring, and observability for production-grade data workflows; experience with Infrastructure-as-Code is a plus (e.g. Terraform)
  • Collaborative mindset: You are hands-on, proactive, and collaborative, able to bridge technical and business needs and coach the team along the way

Your training goal for your first 6 months

  • Master the Landscape: You developed a deep understanding of both business units' data and PII sensitivity classification across EGYM Wellpass and EGYM Technology
  • Raise the Bar: You embedded modern engineering standards, CI/CD, automated testing, data contracts, monitoring, as default practice across the data team
  • Lock Down PII: You rolled out platform-wide masking and pseudonymization standards and established column-level lineage across critical pipelines
  • Govern & Audit-Ready: You launched an RBAC/ABAC framework and GDPR-compliant workflows for right-to-be-forgotten and data subject access requests, and produced the first set of evidence and controls to support SOC 2 and ISO 27001 readiness
  • Ship the Semantic Layer: You delivered the first governed metric layer in dbt MetricFlow or Snowflake Semantic Views as the foundation for BI and AI use cases
